David L. Briggs is a cinematographer, gaffer, and grip based out of the Philadelphia area . His initial studies began at North Carolina School of the Arts (now UNC School of the Arts) learning under professionals like David Elkins, SOC and Richard Clabaugh. Over the past twelve years he has continued to hone his craft through feature and commercial productions as well as his collaborative efforts with other cinematographers. His experience includes multi-million dollar features to local corporate and commercial productions.
Cinematography is a language. It is the language of light, shadow and movement. To combine all of these techniques and communicate on a deeper level is what I strive to do in my work and collaborations. Learning technique and ways to communicate never ends.
Each image, moving or still, tells a story. It is the story that inspires my thought and ignites my creativity. Discovering how to speak without words and illuminating the subtext is a joy and a challenge.
Let the image speak for it's author. Let the image speak for itself.
"David Briggs is truly a pleasure to work with every time our paths cross. He brings to the set not only a masterful knowledge of a wide variety of cameras, lighting, and grip gear, but also an upbeat attitude and an ability to adapt to any new situation that may suddenly arise. He also has the rare talent of mechanical skill, and has more than once supplied unique and interesting gear of his own devising to set - everything from car mounts to dolly/jib rigs - often adding an entirely new level of production value to the project. I have hired David as a DP and a gaffer, and I would highly recommend him to anybody for either position."

"David Briggs was my gaffer on Marc Erlbaum's 'Cafe' and I couldn't have done the film without him. His commitment to excellence, his calm under extreme pressure (the feature film was shot in roughly 15 days!), and attention to detail made the film not only look fantastic but a pleasure to make. Every day he exhibited nothing but professionalism, courtesy, and it was my absolute pleasure working with him. He was able to deliver the look the director and I had in mind, while still making it personal for him as well, putting his unique stamp on it. Never afraid of a challenge, David saved me on numerous occasions and I have nothing but extremely positive things to say about him and our time together. He's a gifted filmmaker with a bright future ahead of him for sure."
